Thanks to Richard Inns for this.
Having finished collecting and playing with Necrons I've decided on starting a new Tau army. My first miniature purchased was the commander which I have painted using the following paint scheme:
- First I used a white undercoat, and then a base coat of enchanted blue was painted onto the entire model.
- Once the Enchanted blue was dry I painted blue ink over all the enchanted blue area.
- Once dry the armour plates were given a coat of Lightning Blue, these were highlighted using ice blue followed by Ice blue and skull white.
- The darker blue 'under' armour was painted enchanted blue and highlighted with lightning blue.
- The head was given a coat of Chaos black before being base coated chain mail and highlighted with mithril silver.
- The base was painted Goblin green and flocked. Below is a picture of the finished model painted with the Shas'o R'chy paint scheme:

| Black ink pretty much cures everything, it'll make the model look more war torn, and less shiny. also throw in more colours and don't put everything on as such a solid coat. throw in some white, maybe orange. that'd improve the model.

| too much blue, try to mix it up with darker blue maybe, or just paint some bits metal like the joints, that would split up the blue

| "too shiny for war" ?? rofl look at eldar, or some space marine chapters. this paint scheme is nice, just add a little more shadowing for more detail that's all :D

| Like others have commented just too bright, might i suggest a black or grey for the legs(not the plating) and joint sockets

| Good color combos and very nice technique, but as someone else said...very bright. Might as well paint a bullseye on the armor of that unit. He ain't hiding from anyone.

| Try to use a black undercoat. It's better for the Tau if you aren't using the white for all the miniature.
