The Army of the Earth Caste

Thanks to Ross Lavery for this.

Fire Warrior Squad

Pathfinders

I start off by giving the models a black basecoat and then painting white on all the parts of the model which will eventually have colour. Then I put dark angles green over the top of the skull white while leaving a few bits of the armour untouched for the rank of the warrior (The parts I leave white on a normal fire warrior are some layers of the thigh pads, knee pads, sections of the large shoulder plate and the large ankle ball on the foot).

Once all green has been applied I then give that green some volume by applying a lighter green around the edges. I do this by mixing dark angels green with regal blue and then lightening it with skull white. Once this has been applied I then clean up the model by using chaos black to get rid of points where I have missed the mark or slipped a bit. Once the model is looking sharp and clean I apply my burnished gold to the eye lenses the bolts on the weapons the sensors on the wrists and so on.

The logo on the shoulder plate is simply done in white; the commander of the squad however has his logo done in burnished gold. Pathfinders are done in an overall lighter green and stealth models reversed (black for the armour green as the under garments).

Great job, but the Tau run a caste system. "Fire caste" serve as soldiers and protect the Tau Empire, they tend to be 6 - 7 ft. "Air caste" are the pilots and messengers of the Tau Empire, range 6 - 7 ft. "Ethereals" are the ruling class of the Tau Empire, range 5 - 7 ft. "Earth Caste" are the builders and architects, range 5 - 6 ft. "Water caste" are the general civilians and fill standard positions in employmant, they tend to be more artsy and creative than the other castes, range 5 - 6 ft.

Hmm... Well, I can\'t really say I like or dislike this, because you kind of cheated with the blurry camera shots. For all I know these have coarse, melted edges that have been blurred by your picture quality. On a seporate note, generally the members of the earth caste are not built similarly in bone or body structure to fire caste members, I believe they are supposed to be a bit more portly. But you may disregard that as it has nothing to do with your paint...

great paint scheme but unless that's the kind of army that's a last resort, such as they're stranded and forced to take arms, it's terrible fluff-wise.

Good Paint scheme. Absolutely terrible fluffwise. Try making the grenade not look like a poke'ball

These cannot be members of the earth caste because the earth caste are the Tau ground crew not fighters. (you can actually buy them from forgeworld) 8)

Paint scheme looks great, but as someone else said...Earth Caste is not the warriors. I like the fact that you took the time to give some interesting background to your guys though. The paint looks great! I think the Dark Angels Green/Black would work nice for the Darker/Chaos Tau too.

The paint scheme is pretty good but how can you have an earth caste army? They're the artisans, labourers and scientists, not warriors. It's an obvious thing to say but I'm wondering why nobody has said it yet.

I can barely tell the black and dark angels green apart...my first fire warriors squad was painted black/dark angels green. I've repainted them three times now.

funny hmm looks like you put a light to it. looks easy to paint but it would take me like 1+hours per modle. or paint shop. the pathfinders look like my guys but no white in them.

Nothing really interesting here. But nice to see somebody has bothered to do this.
