Thanks to Farseer Del for this.

Retomer's space marines fled to the Tau empire soon after the Damocles crusade. They still worship the emperor, and have varying colour schemes, often the same as the sept fire warriors they fight alongside.
0-1 Elites choice for Tau
Gue'Vesa, Marines of Retomer
Their stats are as tactical space marine: they're identical
Squad 1 sergeant and 4-9 marines.
Weapons Bolt Pistols and Close Combat Weapons, or Bolters.
Options 1 marine per squad may have one of the following heavy weapons in exchange for his normal equipment: Heavy bolter +5 pts, missile launcher +10 pts or a lascannon for +15 pts.
In addition, 1 other marine may be armed with one of the following assault weapons:
Flamer +6 pts, meltagun +10 pts, modified plasma gun at + 8 pts (does not overheat), Tau Burst Cannon at +8 pts
The whole squad may have frag grenades for +1 point per model, krak grenades for +2 points per model, and meltabombs for +5 pts per model.
The whole squad may be given jump-pack for +10 points per model. If this is done, no marines may have a heavy weapon, but two may have assault weapons.
Up to two marines may have a power weapon for +10 pts, or a power fist for +15 pts in exchange for his close combat weapon or in addition to a bolter
Up to two marines may exchange a bolt pistol and close combat weapon/bolter for a modified plasma pistol (does not overheat) and close combat weapon for +8 pts
On marine per squad may have a markerlight in addition to all other equipment for +10 pts
Transport Rhino +50 pts, razorback +70 pts, devilfish + 80 pts. These vehicles rules are found in codex: space marines (rhino, razorback) and codex: Tau (devilfish). They may buy upgrades allowed by the both codex's rules, but a devilfish may only ever have Tau upgrades.
And They Shall Know no Fear As the marines of Retomer still worship the emperor, they still benefit from the space marine special rule 'And They Shall Know no Fear' as detailed in Codex: Space Marines
Traitors All imperial units hit the Gue'Vesa marines on a 3+ in close combat. Note that unlike the space wolves' blood feud rule, the Gue'Vesa will hit their opponents by their weapons skill respective to the opponents as normal.
Inspired Gue'Vesa are so greatly inspired by the Ethereal's that if a friendly ethereal is killed, they must shoot and/or charge the squad or character that killed the ethereal, depending on circumstances, on the turn the ethereal is killed. If they are unable to do so on the turn this happens, they will fight as normal (e.g.- out of range, out of line of sight, in combat, dead.)
Fearful of Inquisitors If an unfriendly inquisitor of any Ordo is within 12", the Gue'Vesa marines must take an Ld test or automatically fall back. If there is an unfriendly Ordo Hereticus inquisitor in line of sight, they must take this test. Note that if there is an unfriendly Ordo Hereticus inquisitor on the board at all, and 'And They Shall Know no Fear' will no longer apply.

it says that they still worship the emperor, right? if they still worship the emperor, why would they go over to some of his enimies, the tau? the emperor hates aliens, and if they still served him, why would they fight for the tau? in other words: no. no. this would not work at all.

I\'m not sure how well I agree with this idea. I play as Tau (with Gue\'Vesa auxiliaries), Imperial Guard, and Space Marines, and I can\'t see SM as actually allowing themselves to become fully aligned with the Tau. They may work with them towards a common goal, but barring the Chaos Marines, which wasn\'t defection, so much as a corruption, I can\'t find any examples of SM actually being loyal to anyone but the Emperor. A standing contradiction would be he Soul Drinkers, but even they are acting in a manner that they feel is primarily beneficial to the Imperium. Even then, by agreement, this could be a valid army choice, but I could never abide keeping "And they chall know no fear." Imperium and Tau doctrines are too at odds that even if SM were to choose the Greater Good, there would be no way for them to worship the Emperor and serve the greater good. It would be too great a conflict of interest. No, Space Marines will likely never fit in with the concept of greater good. Their very being, the reason they were created, is anathema to the idea. Anyway, that\'s just my two cents. ~Syruss

i think it would work if you switched the plasma gun to a modified plasma rifle, left the plasma pistol the same, and droped the human transports because the tau wouldnt know what to do with it if the ethereals let them take it apart

Shas_le_commando... thats not true... they worked with the Eldar on several occasions, against Orks, Chaos, Necrons, and Tyranids... Also Tau have been known to work with them to bring down raiders like Orks or Dark Eldar... Without any other refernce on me right now, refer to the game Fire Warrior...

This is an incredibly cheesy idea. I'm not going to argue it fluffwise too much but it seems like you've given them rules that contradict their background (like keeping "they shall know no fear") just because you don't want to lose it, or giving them special abilities (like the plasma gun that doesnt overheat) because you don't like the draw backs of that weapon (not to mention you didnt even give that gun a price increase). Options wise though they arn't too bad, certainly not a stupid as some of the things Ive seen on this section of the site *cough*ninjas*cough* but if you're desperate to ignore the game world and include marines for your Tau then I'd just suggest using the unidivided chaos space marines entry and letting them replace a heavy bolter with a burst cannon.

hmmm interesting, but i doubt true space marines would embrace the greater good, more like mercenaries fighting with the highest bidder (i.e. corsair marines)

i think this idea is very cool, but i have this feeling that space marines would look very out of place in the middle of a tau army.

Inq Razeil is partially right. However lets not forget that all space marines who left the empire fled to chaos, the Corsairs are self serving B*stards through and through, and don't all follow chaos. it is not inconcievable that a small splinter chapter of marines may take up the greater good, but they would be small, hunted, and hated by everyone but the tau.

dude thats not very good. SPACE MARINES WOULD NEVER BECOME ONE WITH TAU but they will work with them (cpt Ardias Ultramarines did in Fire Warrior)
