XV20 Assault Battlesuit Team

Printer friendly version | Rate this Article | Comment on this Article

Thanks to Adam Baker for this.

"Some Shas'ui and Shas'vre prefer to fight hand to hand against the enemies of the Tau. They wear the XV20 Assault Battlesuit, one of the most recent developments of the Earth Caste. But the XV20 trades firepower for close combat capabilities, so only the most corageous commanders use them."

This unit was created to reinforce the Close Combat capabilities of the Tau on the battlefield. It takes an Elite choice.

what is wrong with people who write these close combat tau things? you have to make a reason for there forsaking the tau philosiphy and barging straight into close combat. but this still is the greatest close combat tau article ever

please stop making cc tau for gods sakes, not even battlesuits would be CC!

Comment made by Alexander on 22:13:50, 30 December 2007
Well, thanks. This needs some tweaking, but it is good to know that it is good.
Now that I know more, I am going to try to make a v0.2. :P

very well written, best cc tau ive seen. 9/10

Comment made by steck_638 on 14:53:56, 26 November 2007
i think it seems like a mostly fair unit and playing agenst SM and CSM i may talk my brothers into it

it is the best CC tau on this site though

and falstead, try to be nicer to ppl, u never know who may take over the world... lol

Comment made by Germiantor on 05:24:06, 19 October 2007
ok, i`ve read through the many articles that tried to creats a cc-worthy tau unit and you know what, yours is the best so far. Once the weapon option is dropped it looks fairly well balanced and i would mind playing against those.
They\'d be like ghosts, without stealth field gen and with a honorbladelike cc weapon... i like it! very much!

Thanks, jkmoore.

Falstead- For the small argument you put up, you had no right to insult him like that. Your entire post consisted of opinions and rhetorical questions that only served to antagonize the poster. Next time you do something like that, have a valid point to make.

Okey. You don't have to be harsh.
I know what the Tau are. Shooters.
I only thinked of an alternative.

Comment made by BurntEskimo on 17:15:48, 28 June 2007
Very Harsh Falstead, but I agree...in a not as harsh way :P

I see how this could be useful but it goes against that which is Tau. I played Tau because I thought the future would rely more on high powered guns. Not people running around with swords or pulse blades chopping eachother up.

Comment made by Falstead on 07:30:06, 27 June 2007
Do you actually play Tau? Are you familiar at all with the army, the statlines of the units or the background of the game? This shouldn't be up on the website, its a joke and it makes every other article look bad.

woops, I meant to say themselves

Comment made by urban1142 on 12:35:50, 25 June 2007
i agree with balistafreak, it should be imperial guard in those suits, if they prove there selves worthy. Imperial guard are generally weak, no offense to IG players. I would think the tau would probably want to buffen the up.

Comment made by Alexander on 16:26:04, 24 June 2007
Yes, maybe. It's a interesting point of view.

Comment made by Taipan on 15:09:23, 23 June 2007
I wouldn't do this if i were you. Tau have a certain playstyle and they definately prefer ranged combat; we have Kroot and Gue'vesa to tie up enemy assaulters. Maybe you could include it in a IG army who has a Tau theme, but in a normal Tau force this would make it too difficult to exploit the Tau's traditional weakness.

Comment made by Alexander on 09:57:12, 23 June 2007
I never thinked about that!
Thanks, Ravager Zero!
It's a good way to justify the -1 Thoughness!

Comment made by Ravager Zero on 06:03:57, 23 June 2007
GG or Bust: this is amuch lighter suit than an XV 8 (about the size of a stealthsuit) and I agree with making the Pulse blade simply a heavy CC weapon.

Comment made by Alexander on 19:32:31, 22 June 2007
Yes. It's better to modify it.
You are the judges, you can modify the creations!

I think that there is a mistake, a regular C suit has a S of 5 so because this suit emphasizes on C.C. shouldn't it have one too??

Comment made by Alexander on 08:36:45, 21 June 2007
Yes. It was a mistake.
I cliked too fast. :D
Please, also check my Shas'vre Leader on the House rules section too!

1 is bad!

Comment made by Alexander on 08:18:53, 19 June 2007
Thanks! I like to help. :D
I rated the article with a 1.

Man these suits would be sweet models. I'd conver an XV22, or whatever it is that Shadowsun uses, or one of the forgeworld suits. I'd put the strength OR WS up one though, even though it is Tau, it is a dedicated CC unit and should match a basic marine trooper. Also the Shas'vre is almost identical to the 'ui, what's with that?!? Good idea though.

Comment made by robidark on 23:06:29, 17 June 2007
I would take out the 2d6 when penatrating armour (we have many other weapons for that!) This squad would be used to deter non-dedicated assault troops from charging. ex.tactical squad, guardians etc.

Comment made by Alexander on 13:19:55, 17 June 2007
Now. It's fixed. Thanks, Admin! :D

Comment made by Alexander on 11:31:24, 17 June 2007
The admin made a error.
It was 4 Stregth and Toughness for bothe the 'Ui and the 'Vre.
And only 2 wounds for the 'Ui and 3 for the 'Vre.

Comment made by balistafreak on 07:33:54, 17 June 2007
I would say make the pulse blade a "heavy close combat weapon", a la Choppas and Chainaxes. Represents the extra punch that such a weapon has, without making it a ridiculous power weapon. The melta effect is questionable, but personally for 30 points I'm fine with it.

Consider dropping the battlesuit weapon choice. Gives me the image of the classic warrior, blade in one hand, shield in other.

To make up for this, a Shas'vre would probably have WS 4 and an extra attack, and maybe Ld 9 for the cost, since they can no longer take a weapon.

Finally, I would personally never claim to have Tau in these suits - however, it make make perfect sense to stuff Gue'vesa into these. Maybe if Gue'vesa prove themselves, they get put into these. I can't see Tau trusting humans in XV8s.

Comment made by LordCalsius on 05:33:06, 17 June 2007
+2 wounds for the shas'vre, an -1 toughness? i dunno whats up with that. T should stay the same, as probably should wounds. maybe an increase in WS and I as there is with other suit-type upgrades, or perhaps just an extra attack.

just to clarify: the sword essentially has AP3?

other than what i said about the stats, it seems ok to be honest
