Thanks to Stsonic (website) for this.
1.
The nose moves down into a jaw.
2.
The eye shrinks leaving a crevasse.
3.
The "fin" permanently moves down.
4.
More "fins" start appearing.
Eventually....
5.
The face bones move into place.
6.
A Kroot is born.
They look the same right now:

Developing a hard shell-like skin the kroot lost the need for scales and developed spike-like hairs.
And if you're sitting there thinking to yourself "how could they be the same if they're from different planets?" Well I think the Lizardmen stumbled onto one of Eldar's warp gates transporting them to Pech (Kroot home world) Too stupid to find a way home they started evolving. Their eyes shrunk for sharper sight, their bodies got larger and stronger and better efficient jaws appeared.
Well there you go... How Lizardmen turned into Kroot And also how Eldar had a part in creating another species.

warhammer is in a warpstorm and all of the races on it are devolved forms of 40000 races. Sigmar is also a lost primarch

i agree, i think that 40k is the very very far future from fantasy. but the kroot originated from a very distant planet, the lizardmen are on terra, unless they found a warp gate that got to other end of the universe, its not likely that they're the ancestors of kroot

To the person who said that eldar are the old ones, they aren't. it says they are servants of the olds ones in the necron codex.

lizard men are larger than kroot and fantasy and 40k are not the same universe, look at the timelines they are not the same. it would be like using eldar vs wood elves, it doesnt make sense

that would make sense, but i never thought warhammer and 40k were even in the same universe. mabye the chaos gods came from there too (definatly the orks were originally orcs)

the eldar didnt come first plus they were elves back then. in the lizardman army book it says "ongoing experiments are conducted by the old ones(the lizardmen gods if you didn't know who they were),as they create and destroy a number of new races, altering them from netive life forms. the elves, dwarfs and men are born."

oh and eldar came first. they were created at the begining of time, so maybe they taught it to the slann (in response to redmingum)

interesting however, lizardmen are, well, lizards. Whereas kroot have been proven avians. It also says in the codex that kroot evolve birds

That's a really awesome connection but didn't Kroot evolve from birds? I still like the link though and the new(ish) lizardmen models look even more like Kroot. Good story.

Many think that Sigmar may indeed be one of the Emperors Primarchs, this notion makes the bridge between Warhammer and Warhammer 40k. So why can't the Lizardmen be the evolutionary ancestors of the Kroot? Sounds solid enough for me to give this theory credit. I find it another bridge between the two games and like the idea of it. And what happened to the squats?

it is an interesting theory as i think the 'old ones' are actually the eldar anyway
Comment made by redmingum on 00:14:16, 25 February 2007

being that birds evolved from lizards possible explains the difference but nice drawings and all in all a much more fun theory. I remember the old days of warhammer when the slann remains of intersteller race with warp technology, so prehaps they taught it to the eldar!

Two races that look the same is a trademark of Caitadel miniatures. You can't really judge anything by it... And if the Eldar had wraithgates on the Fantasy world why haven't they conquered it?

While a cool series of drawings this article shows just how little about the Warhammer Fantasy world the poster knows about. The theory could be extrapolated on and explained a whole lot more with a little bit of knowledge and research.

Well it all sounds nice, but you forget that warhammer and warhammer 40k are two different worlds altogether and have no history in common. yes they appear alike and thats intentionel, but they are not the same. lizardmen derived from magical manipulation from the old ones and their slaan magepriests, where the kroot evolved from a carnivor like bird race, their feathers turned to spines and wings to strong clawed arms. im not saying that they dont look the same, they are just not!
