Terra

Thanks to Wargamer for this

"There was a mountain of skulls, sixty feet high, piled ghoulishly before me. In its mist, a massive figure in bone-covered Power Armour strode, a broken sword in one hand, and a large tome bound onto his chest. Scribe-heads; decapitated serfs with bionically attached pens and auto-loaded parchment, swarmed around the pile like flies on a bloated corpse. About half way up, a warped figure barely worthy of the name Human was writing onto each of the skulls. Sometimes it would be a numeral, but occasionally he would carve "repent" into the bone with his long, metallic quill.

I stood, staring at the madness for some time. Slowly, I became filled with a feeling of horrible knowledge; a feeling that more such bizarre and disturbing scenes awaited me...

...this was the true face of Terra.

I continued through the Palace, if such a name was still fitting for this charnal house. I was forced to stop and allow a massive, treaded vehicle rumble past. I risked a glance at the capsule held in its gigantic crane-hand, and winced at the figure crushed inside; his final, terrible moment of life frozen forever on his compacted form. His legs were twisted and mangled, his arms forced into his chest. His skin was swollen and blackened, probably where he had begun bleeding internally. I could only imagine his arteries bursting, and bones cracking, as he was forced into such unnatural confines...

I screamed when it blinked at me; the man was still alive.

I cursed myself now for this pilgrimage. I wished so dearly that I had never left my home, that I had remained, safe and ignorant. Now, my heart was pounding, afraid of what nightmares would greet me around the next corner.

It turns out that this place had plans for me. A group of foul grotesques, adorned in bionics, ambushed me as I approached the Hall of Heroes. They plunged needle-blades into my body, and drained my life fluids. I sagged to the ground, conciousness leaving me, and was cast out of a portal, into the storm-filled skies of Terra...

I awoke, once, my body numb. I had fallen twenty feet, but the landing was not pleasant. I lay on a mound of corpses. Crawling, each movement causing a foul, sucking feeling in my limbs, I risked a glance down the mound. Though my vision was failing, I swear it was at least two-hundred feet high...

...and this is where my journey ends. My vox-pict recorder is running out of power, and it is hard now for me to speak. The pestilence of this place... this world... it sickens me. Terra is madness... only the damned come here..."
