Thanks to Hanging Dragon for this
Once you have learned the basic skills of terrain making you can take on larger projects like this fortress. This fortress is made from foam core card, thin cardboard, balsa wood, fly screen and a few other little bits and pieces.
Picture Notes:

Fortress front - the basic walls were constructed from 5 mm Foam Core, the structural supports are made from thin card glued onto the foam core. The overall design was copied from a picture in an old White Dwarf.

Fortress back - Here you can see some of the little details like the bushes made from dyed seaweed. You can also see the buttress made from thin card glued along the top and supported by little triangles cut from balsa wood.

Fortress door - The door is made from thin card stuck onto the foam core, the little viewing slit is also thin card. The door handle is a handgrip from an Imperial Guard tank kindly provided by one of my opponents. The hinges are cut up banner poles from Epic 40K. I think the yellow and black stripes make the whole piece more stunning and makes entrances very easy to identify.

Fortress top - Here you can see the basic layout as well as the top hatch troops will emerge from when the come up the the roof.
